About Kimberly Sullivan

Kimberly Sullivan, LMFT, has been licensed in California since 2007 and brings over 20 years of professional experience to her clinical work. LMFT stands for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a credential that denotes training in relational and individual approaches to mental health. She utilizes TEAM CBT, a focused therapeutic orientation developed by psychiatrist David Burns over the past 40 years, to address a wide range of concerns including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma and abuse, self-esteem struggles, addictions, grief, and many other life challenges.

Kim is certified at Level 3 in the TEAM CBT orientation, which represents the advanced level of training. That certification required four years of study and supervised practice and concluded with an oral examination. Her introduction to TEAM CBT began in July 2019 with a four-day intensive workshop, and she returned to repeat the four-day intensive in Atlanta four months later. Since then she has pursued additional trainings to refine interventions for specific diagnoses and common treatment obstacles, and she participates regularly in a consultation group led by a Level 5 trainer to continue developing her skills and clinical self-work.

In addition to her clinical credentials, Kimberly brings a diverse background to her practice. She works with companion animals in training and currently has two therapy dogs in training that were rescued from shelters. She has nearly 40 years of experience with horses, including owning and operating a riding school in the 1990s and competing in hunters, jumpers, and dressage. Kimberly is also an accomplished martial artist and holds a 4th degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art related to karate. These varied interests inform her therapeutic perspective and contribute to a practical, experienced approach to helping clients navigate change and build resilience.

Could Remote Sessions Fit Your Life?

Many people wonder whether working with a therapist online can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and navigating life changes, research indicates that online therapy can be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.

One major benefit is flexibility. Individuals may meet with a therapist in the format that best fits their routines and comfort level - through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That flexibility often makes it easier to maintain consistent care while balancing work, family, and other obligations.

Therapists who offer online care are licensed professionals, and clients may choose a different therapist at any time if they want a different fit. For many people, remote therapy provides a practical, accessible option for receiving skilled mental health support without changing the core goals or methods of treatment.
