About Nicola Young
With experience across private practice, local counselling agencies, online services, and as a mental health adviser for a community charity, Nicola has supported people through stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, compassion fatigue, and wider life transitions. She also works with a broad range of other concerns including self-esteem, anger, trauma and abuse, addiction, parenting and family issues, body image and eating-related problems, and neurodiversity-related needs such as ADHD.
Before training in counselling Nicola spent two decades in the music industry, a background that informs her understanding of creative work, performance pressures, and the practical challenges of creative careers. She describes her therapeutic space as calm and supportive, offering a non-judgemental environment where thoughts and feelings can be explored at an individual pace.
Qualifications include a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, both awarded by CPCAB, along with earlier CPCAB counselling studies and skills certificates. Nicola also holds a BA (Hons) in Music. CPCAB qualifications are vocational diplomas in counselling training and BACP membership indicates registration with the UK’s professional counselling body.
Nicola has completed additional professional development in areas such as safeguarding, suicide awareness, mental health first aid, working with attachment, anger and shame, self-esteem, assertiveness, and online and telephone counselling. She maintains an enhanced DBS and has experience volunteering for organisations focused on social change and therapeutic support.
Nicola is currently accepting clients and is available on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 4.30pm, on Saturday mornings, and for some evenings by request. Prospective clients are invited to message with any questions and to arrange an initial appointment.

Could Remote Therapy Be a Good Fit?
Many people ask whether remote therapy can truly help. For a range of common concerns - including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and navigating life changes - online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person sessions for many people.
One major benefit is flexibility. Individuals can connect with a therapist using the format that suits them best: video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility can make it easier to incorporate regular support into busy or unpredictable schedules.
Therapists offering online work are licensed professionals who bring the same therapeutic approaches and clinical training used in face-to-face settings. If a particular working relationship does not feel like the right fit, it is generally straightforward to discuss different options or a change of therapist to find a better match.
